Thorn gets wine enthusiasts in the mood

If there's one thing that wine enthusiasts welcome when choosing their tours in sunny climates, it's an inviting, award-winning and well-lit winery. That's just what visitors to Southern Moravia in the Czech Republic now have with the premier Gotberg Winery. Designed by Bukolsky Architects, the contemporary building and lighting create a fantastic atmosphere of cleanliness and spaciousness using pure materials. 

Illuminating taste buds

In the tasting and selling areas, recessed mounted Mica luminaires illuminate the block panel barrel ceiling using accent lighting distribution to create an aesthetically pleasing effect. Available in a wide choice of sizes, frames, mounting depths and light sources, Mica also provides a high level of general lighting. Precise beam control prevents obtrusive light and ensures a comfortable environment for wine tasting.

Mica is additionally supplemented by Chalice downlights, which feature new energy saving compact fluorescent lamps to consume 25% less power compared to traditional versions. An advanced multi-functional dimmable ballast also provides additional energy savings through DALI or DSI control and corridor functionality.

A complete lighting solution

Within the main production areas, AquaForce II luminaires are installed to meet strict hygiene requirements. Featuring a deep gasket channel, AquaForce II is IP65 rated and has a suspendable gear tray for ease of maintenance.

Other luminaires that contribute to the winery's efficiency include LED Voyager emergency bulkheads as well as Punch II linear fluorescents, which cut energy consumption by 30% compared to Switchstart and have a high LOR (63%) to reduce the number of fittings. The Voyager bulkheads additionally include those with automatic testing to reduce maintenance.

Guidance around the building is provided by Thorn's robust and circular aluminium Chartor bollards, which have a simple design for subtle integration.
